Fantastic Value!  |
I bought this due to my growing interest in photography. I noticed that it came bundled with negative and slide adapters enabling you to put your best shots onto your computer.Having just got hold of Photoshop I was keen to muck around with my own scanned photos. This scanner DOES NOT disappoint! An absolute gem, with bundled software that enables complex scanner settings to become easy to understand and change. The quality of scans at 4800 dpi is really good, so good that im confident enough to send the images to magazines. Also bundled is Photoshop Elements which is the stripped down version of photoshop 7. Installation is really quick and easy and through USB 2 (or USB1) this scanner is quick and provides smooth results. A SNIP! Very happy!

From reading the previous review - I thought this may be a little hassle setting up but sounds like value for money so would be worth it. Having sat in the box for the last 2 weeks until I had time to set it up, I finally found the time and patient mood to do so today! I have to say - it couldnt have been easier. Complete Plug & Play - using the quick guide set up and the disk during the loading process tells you exactly when to connect up the scanner and it took me all of about 15 minutes at most. Have put it to the test today, with handwritten documents, photos and 35mm negatives - and am very impressed, very simple, and like anything - the more you use it, you become familiar with it and more expert. Top marks!

It took me a week trying to figure out how to install this beast. Ive had a canon and a HP before and no problem installing but this beast is frightening at first. If you have any VIA chips on your motherboard dont buy this it wont work. The only other thing you can do is buy a USB2 card and plug it in there. You could buy another motherboard but thats just not worth it. Also if you are having problems trying to get paperport to work you do have to install it in the root directory of C and not the windows default (programs) folder, as I found out the hard way. The OCR is pretty decent 99% accurate but it wont recognise pre printed sheets. The Email button dosent seem to recognise my email program only Outlook Express, The copy button does work a treat though, very time saving. The main scan button works pretty good too and even crops the picture for you. The output quality is amazing and its a terrific fast scanner as long as you use USB2. The negative copier works pretty good too. All in all the scanner is not perfect but sheer value for money and if your new to scanning or computers do read the manual very carefully before installing and revise it too.
